Before you
book.

Start with a diagnostic conversation — not a sales call. A good SEO expert will ask to see your Google Search Console data, your existing content, and your business goals before recommending anything. If someone leads with a package price before understanding your situation, that’s a red flag. The right hire diagnoses first and prescribes second.
Ask them to show you a specific example of ranking movement they’ve driven and explain exactly what caused it. Ask how they measure success — if the answer is rankings rather than revenue or leads, keep looking. Ask what happens to the work if you stop working together. And ask whether they’ll be doing the work or handing it to a junior team member.
For existing content sitting at positions six to twenty, meaningful movement can happen in four to eight weeks with the right optimization. For brand new content, three to six months is realistic for competitive keywords. Anyone promising faster results than that is either targeting extremely low-competition terms or not being straight with you.
